Undulate Rays in love
Love is in the air at The Loch Lomond Aquarium with the arrival of an amorous female Undulate Ray.
The female ray arrived at the centre in early February as a partner for the centres frisky Fred, who has been homed in the centre since its opening in 2006.
Mark Hind Displays Curator at the centre said "Fred is the only Undulate Ray within the centre. He has now reached maturity and we noticed that he was showing mating activity with the other rays in the tank"
Wilma as she is now called came from the Weymouth sea life centre in early February and there has already been some passionate activity.
"There have already been some eggs laid and they seem to be fertile, however we will not know how successful this has been until the babies are born in another 9 months" said Mark.
The Undulate Ray breeding program is part of a larger breeding program in the centre where they already successfully breed, a selection of sharks, rays and seahorses in a dedicated breeding area.
