To enable contractors working on behalf of Transport for London to carry out refurbishment works in the northbound bore of Blackwall Tunnel, from Sunday to Thursday, the northbound bore of the tunnel will be closed nightly from 21:00 hrs to 05:00 hrs the following morning. During the closure periods the southbound bore will be closed to southbound traffic which will be diverted to other river crossings. Northbound traffic will be diverted via the southbound bore. Routine tunnel maintenance works will be carried out on Sunday mornings between 01:00hrs and 08:00hrs. Both tunnel bores will remain open in both directions on Friday nights. As the diversion for the traffic free route will take vehicles down Bridge Place there is expected to be congestion at this junction with Neathouse Place. The 170 route bus stand will be converted to a stop at various times during the works and route 170 will be relocated. Traffic will be diverted from Vauxhall Bridge Road onto Neathouse Place then onto Bridge Place, Eccleston Bridge and Buckingham Palace Road from where traffic will be able to carry on with their normal journey. The diversion is already part of the congestion charge free route.Works
